I’ve tried it a lot of times, never ending with success.. Until now..
Funambol makes contacts and calendar synchronication easy, thanks to free servers and clients. Most popular devices have their own client (iPod and iphone also) and free web server leverages the user from having one. If you want to have your own server, you can download and install packages for windows and linux.
